Starting a Nonprofit? The Alternative

Do you have a great idea that falls in alignment with a charitable cause?

Are you also unsure if starting a nonprofit is the right business venture for you?

Look no further there is an alternative available for you.

Fiscal Sponsorship

Have you heard of fiscal sponsorship?

Fiscal sponsorship refers to the practice of non-profit organizations offering their legal and tax-exempt status to groups-typically projects-engaged in activities related to the sponsoring organization’s mission. It typically involves a fee-based contractual arrangement between a project and an established non-profit. [1]

Fiscal sponsors are great resources for short term and ongoing projects if the project is related to their mission. The right fiscal sponsor will coach you and guide you in measuring and managing your project initiatives. Choosing a fiscal sponsor helps you focus on your project, e.g. networking with potential donors, fundraising, event planning, etc.

Nonprofit Advice: Choose a fiscal sponsor who us financially strong and ethical with the financials of the nonprofit.

If you later decided to apply for your 501c3 federal exemption, you may do so but please communicate with your fiscal sponsor well in advance of your future intentions.
